What building permits are required for ADUs, JADUs, Tiny Homes, and Movable Tiny Homes?

If you are following the traditional permit process and your project meets the county standards (no Special Permit is needed), then you will only need a building permit.  Humboldt County also has an Alternative Owner-Builder (AOB) Program, which is especially appealing to those living in rural areas. The Alternative Owner-Builder Program (AOB) allows for greater flexibility with building materials and process, has fewer requirements and inspections, takes less time and costs less. However, homeowners must occupy the primary home and take responsibility for any structural or fire safety issues. Homeowners have the option to use a contractor, but it is not required. More information about the AOB program can be found here or you can contact the Building Division at (707) 445-7245.
